From the President
WECCC President Lise LehouxI’d like to welcome all paddlers to join our WECCC club and discover how much fun, natural beauty and friendship can be found on the waterways in our community. I was raised in River Canard where it flowed to the back of our property. I have wonderful memories of my dad taking me canoeing from Ravenello’s Orchard to our home and back from the young age of 8years old. In my teens, I started to attend annual canoe trips to Northern Michigan on the Pine River with my family and friends. Over the past six years, I have enjoyed paddling and sea kayaking with the club where I have finally found my people! We paddle, have regular BBQ’s, hike, bike, cross country ski and have become dear friends over the past several years.
One of my favourite club events is Summer Fest – The 14km Steve Lutsch Memorial paddle down the Detroit River each June in the Montreal Canoe! I’ve been granted the opportunity to steer this amazing vessel and will continue to fine tune my skills in the coming season. I have come to appreciate all of Essex County and Kent County waterways, including: RIver Canard. Cedar Creek, Turkey Creek, Puce River, Belle River, Ruscom River, Pike Creek, Point Pelee Marsh, Hillman Marsh, Jeanette’s Creek, Thames River, the Wallaceburg Loop & Detroit River.
I invite you to come and explore these waterways and more as our Club Family Camp this August will be in Killarney, ON. We’ll be offering weekend camping trips to explore new waterways between Windsor and Toronto throughout the coming season. If you’d like to join us for some great adventures and make new memories, take the plunge and say YES!!! We’d love to have you grow our paddling family.
Renee
